HOSPITAL BOARD ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS— A HOSPITAL IS AN INSTITUTION FOR THE RECEPTION AND TREATMENT OF THE SICK AND INJURED." With this thought uppermost in my mind I aim to pursue o vigorous policy of advancement for this cause, if re-elected. Three years' apprenticeship on the Nelson Hospital Board has given me a full insight into the requirements of both patients and staff. Modern equipment, the latest scientific instruments and drugs are essential to the welfare of the patient, and it will be my policy, os in the past, to support any advancement in this respect. But the welfare of the patient is dependent also upon the staff. They in their turn deserve the utmost consideration in preserving the spirit of co-ordination so essential in an institution of this nature. With the intensive building programme still to be completed, many matters of vital interest to the Nelson district in respect to Hospitalisation have yet to be given serious thought, and I believe thot a man of initiative and action is essential on the Board DO YOU AGREE? R. W. MARTIN, Chemist. CITY COUNCIL ELECTION! VOTE HARLEY! A If again elected I will do my best to maintain the amenities of the city at their highest possible standard commensurate with sound finance and within the limits of our duty to the war effort. I will plan for that glorious time when peace is declared and our men and women of the fighting services are returned to us. Nelson then must progress and cater for her rightful share of increased population, tourists and new industries. J. A. HARLEY. WHERE STANDS JACK NEWMAN in the City Council Election? (1) I believe it is my duty to the community in which I live to undertake some form of civic responsibility early in life. (2) I belong to a family of Nelson pioneers whose business ideas have always been liberal and progressive. (3) I believe that Politics have no place in Local Body administration and Candidates should be free to exercise their own judgment on the expenditure of ratepayers’ money in the best interests of the City as a whole. (4) My business experience and sporting activities will, I believe, be of some small benefit to the community if the electors see fit to place their confidence in me on Saturday. (5) lam keen and willing to serve the citizens of Nelson as a Councillor, and if elected will carry out the duties entrusted to me with an unbiassed mind, proud in the knowledge that I am helping in some small way to guide the destinies of a grand and lovely City. Vote STAN SAVAGE FOR CITY COUNCIL Youth and Progress COUNCIL ELECTION. VOTE FOR GOULD The Serviceman s Candidate An Ex-Serviceman willing to serve all Electors interested in the return of the Serving Men and Women. Who will fight to the last trench for Service Men and Women's rights on Rehabilitation. They are worthy of your support. Give them that support by Voting W. GOULD. WAIMEA COUNTY ELECTORS. CATCHMENT BOARD. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN— I much regret that it has not been possible to meet electors in the WANGAPEKA, DOVEDALE, MOUTERE, RIWAKA ond other Districts to explain my views on Soil Erosion. I believe that a heavy responsibility rests on the shoulders of the new Board. If the job is done properly it will be a big job and a big job means big money from somewhere. You will realise then that the ratepayers' interests must be jealously guarded and that the national purse should bear its proper share of the expenditure. Although my home is on the Waimea Plains, to me the soil on the farms in Korere and Riwaka is just as precious as the soil near my farm. All I ask of you is to consider the wide powers and wide duties of the new Board and to elect to it those whom you consider are most able to apply that levelheadedness, impartiality and caution which will be so essential to the successful functioning of the Board. ALEX. G. RUSSELL. RICHMOND MAYORALTY. At the request of a large number of representative Electors, I again offer my services for the above office. During my term of five years as a member of the Council and Deputy-Mayor, and six years as Mayor, I have worked for the advancement of our borough. I thank the people of Richmond for their helpful co-operation in the past, both in Council and Patriotic matters, ond if re-elected I will look forward to their continued help. If transport is required on polling day, please ring 25M. A. R. TUFFNELL. MOTUEKA ELECTIONS. Advance Motueka l The New Zealand Division continues to push forword in its own irresistible manner with members of the Maori race helping to share the burden with their Pakeha comrades. VOTE RANGI! An energetic young man with extensive practical experience in Borough and Harbour affairs, who will, if given your support, pursue a vigorous policy of advancement and progress for the benefit of the community as a whole. HENRY RANGI.
