ST. ANDREW’S ORPHANAGE
ANNUAL MEETING At the annual meeting of subscribers presided over by the Dean ol Ncl- j son (the Very Rev. P. B. Haggitt). the j following report was presented by the trustees:- - The trustees report that the work of the home has been smoothly and efficiently carried on. The number of inmates has remained practically unchanged. 5 children having been admitted and four discharged during the year. Expenditure on repairs and replacements has of necessity been rather heavy and the cost of much needed improvements to the home has had to be met and the working account shows a deficit of £54 5s 8d for the year. The trustees record with grateful appreciation their thanks to those who took children during the Christmas holidays, to those who have so liberally supported the institution by gifts of cash, vegetables, clothing and materials, and to the many friends of St. Andrew s who have helped in other ways. The trustees have thankfully received a bequest of £25 made by the late Mr S. Gorman and are to receive income from the endowment of £IOOO made by the late Mr G. Graham, of Blenheim. A bequ< .t from the late Mrs A. R. Dyson who was always a very good friend of St. Andrew’s, gave the children a very happy Easter outing. The trustees again express their gratitude to Misses Woodward and Balt. The retiring trustees —the Dean. Rev. Jas. Hay and Mrs Biddle were re-elect-ed. The Dean of Nelson was re-elected as chairman of trustees. The matron and trustees of St. Andrew's Orphanage gratefully acknowledge donations and help from the following: Mrs Jackson, Mr Cross, Midway Milk Bar. Park Davis. Wilkins and Field. Ca-.vthron Institute. Mrs Price. Mrs Beilby. Mrs Andrews, Hounsell and Co.. F. W. Huggins. S. Gough. Competitions Society, McKay’s. Mr Pitts-Brown, Mr Burke. Mr Stewart. Mrs Robinson, Mr Bensemano. Mr A. Holdaway. Mr J. H. Walker. Suburban Bus Co., the following churches: All Saints', Trinity Presbyterian. St. Paul's (Brightwater), St. Stephen’s. First Church. Tahuna, St. Alban’s, St. Peter’s and St. John's, Suburban North, Nelson South, the Cathedral. St. Barnabas, Stoke, and also the Girls’ College.
