ANNUAL MEETING HELD At the annual meeting of the Golden Bay Returned Services’ Association. Mr J. Vaughan presided over a large attendance, which included a considerable number of returned men of this war and three Boer War veterans. In his report Mr Vaughan, president, paid a tribute to the work of the secretary. Mr C. Stobie, who once again had done a hard year’s service, and to Messrs J. Roche and R. Clarke, two committee members who had left the district. The total of grants to ex-ser-vicemen was £99. and the need to build up funds for this purpose was greater than ever. Thanks to the support of the public, the annual ball had yielded a profit of £l6 and the annual concert £B4. Further donations had been received from the Odd Fellows’ and the Labour Party’s Ball, and the W.N.R.: while the staff of Messrs Wadsworth and Co. had again given the proceeds of their ball. £SO. The annua] Dominion conference had been very successful and had devoted most of its time to the interests of returned men of this war. All resolutions had been accepted by Parliament with one small exception. Mr Vaughan then expressed thanks to the local schools for the sale of poppies, to the Takaka Band for their services, and to Mrs J. Davies for the use of her room for committee meetings. In pointing out that the membership was now 102. with 13 returned men from this war the president stated that all men returned from overseas or on leave therefrom without pay were eligible as members. The balance sheet showed the assets of the branch to be £573. with £3OB in National Savings, and £2lO in the Trust Account.

The election of officers resulted: President, Mr J. Vaughan; vice-presi-dent. Mr J. Childerhouse: executive. Messrs K. Baird. C. Bickley, J. Davies. A. Hoare. E. Murray, A. Rose. T. Symes; social committee. Messrs A. Emms. E. Murray. A. Hoare. N. Benseinann, E. Edmondson, H. Manson, C. Bickley. C. Winter: treasurer, Mr P. Wood: auditor. M. B. Falconer. In reply to a question concerning the free rail warrant issued to all men on their return from overseas, the secretary. Mr C. Stobie. stated that these were free permits and were not affected by the restrictions on rail travel. A vote of thanks was carried to the the Girl Guides for services on Anzac Day. A donation of £lO had been sent to the Nelson Gratitude Building Fund. It was decided to ask the Dominion Executive to take up the matter of arranging a medical board in Takaka and Collingwood, composed of the local doctors, so that returned men could be re-boarded in the district and not have to travel to Nelson. At the conclusion of the meeting a very pleasant social hour was spent and supper w'as provided. Mr R. Jones presided at the piano.
