516 CHILDREN SUBSCRIBERS TO LIBRARY ELECTION OF OFFICERS A report submitted to the monthly meeting of the Nelson Institute executive committee showed that there are now 546 children subscribers to the Public Library, the increase in the number during the past' month being a record. The committee elected the following officers: president, Sir Walter Scott-vice-president. Mr H Hurst; hon l'etary, Mr J. W. Russell The librarian’s report showed ■ (a) increase in membership, adults 18 rental 8, children 79; (b) book accessions for March, fiction 50. general 45, juvenile 39; (c) subscriptions re£31 V 4s’6d ß3 9S M; <d) eXtra b °° k feeE > On Thursday prior to Good Friday there were 1196 issues of library books m the one day, that figure being a record. No doubt many people, anticipating a wet Easter, drew heavily on the library resources. Gifts of books were acknowledged' irom Dr F. A. Bett and from Col. C. B. Brereton. A report showing details of a proposed improved lay-cut of the whole library was presented by a sub-committee the report was held over till the next meeting to allow for a fuller investWation. *
