LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS

CLOSING DATE FOR ENROLMENTS 19th APRIL IN COUNTIES The comment that a large number of people were ignorant bf the effects of the new amendment to the Local Elections and Polls Act, was made by several councillors at the meeting of the Waimea County Council yesterday. It was emphasised that the roll closes on 19th April in the case of the county, the election taking place on 27th May. In reply to questions it was explained that county ratepayers living in the city could vote if they had paid their rates. Ratepayers residing in the county could vote whether they had paid their rates or not. Electors must enrol in the riding in which they reside.
