COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING CORRESPONDENCE DEALT WITH The following correspondence was dealt with by the vVaimca Count.) Council yesterday afternoon. Council lor J. Cordcr being in the chair. Mr A. M. Russ, Richmond, complained of the growth cn the southern portion of the Appleby Domain. The matter was left Jo the chairman, the member for the riding and the EnI gineer with power to act. The Hon. C. F. Skinner, Minister of Rehabilitation, advised that a grant had been authorised for cleaning out a length of U miles of Glen Rae Creek. The Public Works Department advised that a grant of £ll3O on a £1 for £2 basis had been approved for clearing out the Glen Rae Creek, the council's contribution being £377. It was decided that the Engineer inspect the creek and report, and the member for the riding interview the settlers and ascertain what they are prepared to contribute. The Tahunanui Town Board wrote in connection with the Tahunanui Fire Brigade attending fires in the Stoke area. It was decided to interview the Stoke E.P.S. and obtain further information. A letter was received from the Motueka Borough Council in regard to pumping out wells and fire pipes in the Riwaka Special Fire Area. Further information is to be obtained from the Borough Council, and the letter was held over. A request for a donation was received from the Tahuna Sands Association. A grant of £5 was agreed to. Mrs M. J. Joss, R.M.D , Richmond, offered the sum of £SO for the purpose of a council section adjoining her property. The offer was accepted. Mr H. F. Flower, Hira, claimed compensation for land taken for a road in 1924. It was explained that the claim was too late and the council had no power to make a payment The clerk was instructed to find out whether the writer had since been paying rates on Ihe land taken, as \va« alleged. Mr G. H. Bealson, Motueka. applied for permission to instal a culvert to give access to his property at Stoke. Permission was granted. Mr H. Stewart, Annesbrook. wrote with regard to the provision of a cattle route through Annesbrook, complaining of damage to gardens through cattle entering private gardens. The matter was left to the Engineer to make a report. Lime and Marble Ltd., Mapua, applied for repairs to be made to a track up Hackett Creek. The request was referred to a sub-committee for inspection, a report to be made to the council. Mr B. F. Cropp. Wai-iti, applied for repairs to be carried out to the road giving access to his properties, Hoult’s Valley. Further information is to be sought from the writer. Mrs S. Hannen, Tui. asked for the renewal of the bridge giving access to her property. The Engineer said it would cost £4BO to renew the bridge, and he did not know whether they could do the work The Engineer and member for the riding are to inspect the locality and report back to the council, with power to make temporary arrangements for access. Mr O. L. Blanche!. Tadmor, applied for permission to encroach on the Tad-mor-Sherry road with a boundary road. The Engineer’s report on suggestions he had made was adopted. Mr L. Boyes, Pokororo. applied for payment for work carried out on the track in the right hand Graham river. The account was passed for payment, but the writer is to be informed that future work must first be authorised. Mr G. W. Relat, Motueka. wrote with regard to protection work at Brooklyn Creek, several settlers offering to contribute towards the cost. It was resolved that, having received a definite promise from ratepayers outside of the River Board area to contribute one-third of the cost of the proposed work above Brooklyn bridge on Shaggery Road, the council regret the River Board’s decision not to contribute. The board is to be asked to reconsider its decision, particularly owing to flooding caused to the board's ratepayers' properties by the overflow. Mr T. L. Cooper, Sandy Bay. made a request for improved access to Marahau. The council adhered to its decision that it was prepared to contribute £7OO if the Public Works Department gave a £2- for £1 subsidy.
