LEND-LEASE FIGURES

FOOD FOR U.S. FORCES Rugby, Mar. 8. The British Commonwealth is supplying the greater part of a steadily increasing volume of reverse lendwhich is now being furnished to the United States. Australia, New Zealand and India have spend over £500.000,000 sterling for supplies and services furnished to the United States forces and Merchant Marine overesas as reverse lend-lease from June, 1942, to December, 1943, said Mr Leo Crowley, the United States Foreign Economic Administrator. After referring to aspects of Britain’s contribution. Mr Crowley said: “We have received over 1250 million pounds of food as reverse lend-lease from the United Kingdom. Australia and New Zealand, with a combined population of only one-fifteenth of ours, have provided over 800,000,000 pounds of food to our forces in the Pacific from June, 1942, to January last. Almost all the food for the United States forces in Australia and New Zealand is provided as reverse lend-lease. The volume of food they are furnishing has increased rapidly as more of our forces have moved into the area. As the need arises teh United States is also receiving reverse lend-lease supplies and services from the other allies.”
