GRATITUDE BUILDING FUND APPEAL

ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE NO EASTER GALA The following were present at a meeting of the entertainment committee of the Gratitude Building Fund Appeal; Mr A. H. Crawley (chairman), Mesdames Scrimgeour and Clements, Miss E. Stewart, Messrs H. J. Addis, J. A. Harley, F. V. Powell, C. H. Withers. F. J. Lock, C. J. Du Flou. W. R. Lock, F. H. Greening, D. Ovens, J. Sim, N. Jones. D. H. Murray, A. K. Greenslade (organiser) and J. C. Walsh (hon. secretary). Mr N. Jones offered to arrange a regatta at the Port on 18th March in conjunction with the Aurora Sailing Club and Sea Scouts and his offer was accepted. Miss Stewart reported that the proceeds of the recent swimming carnival amounted to £lB and it was decided to send a letter of appreciation to the Swimming Club on the success of its efforts. After a short discussion it was agreed not to hold a gala and marching display during Easter Week but on Saturday, 22nd April. It was expected that entries for the inter-house marching display would be large and also for the tug of war competition for which good prizes would be offered. Mrs Clements reported that all arrangements were being finalised for the Happiness Club Ball, which should prove a great success. Next Sunday evening the Nelson Pipe i Band will hold a Band Concert at the j Moller Fountain commencing at 8.30. j The Nelson R.N.Z.A.F. Station is ar- 1 ranging a Sunday night band concert at the Majestic Theatre on Sunday, 19th March, when a programme supplied by the Air Force band and concert party will be staged. Commencing on Tuesday, 28th March, a five night variety show of wide appeal, will be presented at the Theatre Royal and for the past few weeks continuous rehearsals have been held. Arrangements have also been finalised to hold two sponsored community sings in the near future.
