RACING

THREE MEETINGS TO-MORROW HORSES IN FORM There will be three meetings in New Zealand to-morrow—the Wellington and Gore Racing Clubs’ and the South Auckland Trotting Club’s. The Timaru Trotting Club’s gathering had to be cancelled. Cood acceptances have been received all round, but there will doubtless be a few late scratchings owing to the inability of some owners and trainers to reach their meetings on account of the rail and petrol restrictions.

It is unfortunate for the racing fraternity that the Minister of Transport has announced further restrictions in the matter of floats, etc. Should the restrictions remain in force long the racing and trotting conferences will probably recommend contralisation of races (i.e. racing only in the metropolitan and large training centres), while the trainers will have to face up to the inevitable and do what their fathers did—walk their charges to the various meetings to an even greater degree than at present. One thing that has been very noticable during the last few months is that most horses are being trained fit and not raced over a few meetings to run them into form. Following are the form horses for to-morrow’s meeting. WELLINGTON RACING CLUB 12.2 Rimu High weight Handicap, 11 furlongs.—Tavern Light, Madame Rachel, Gunga Din.
