CONTROL OF EMPLOYMENT
AUTHORITY SOUGHT IN AUSTRALIA Canberra, Feb. 11. Half of Australia’s working population of nearly 2.000.000 will have to change jobs when the war is over, according to Government estimates. An appeal for Commonwealth authority to control employment was made by the Attorney-General. Dr. Evatt, in his second reading speech on the Constitutional Alteration Bill, The Bill authorises the holding of a referendum to secure increased postwar powers for the Commonwealth. The Federal Government is seeking just those powers already agreed to by the Premiers of the six States, but sanctioned only by the New South Wales and Queensland Parliaments.
