PROVISION AT TAHUNANUI CONSIDERATION RY TOWN BOARD PART OF SANDS RESERVE SUGGESTED Thc Tahunanui Town Board has under consideration a proposal to take over part of the Sands Reserve as a local eecreation.il area, thc in trillion living lo maintain football and tricket fields. Arising out of comment made at the last meeting of the board the Tahuna Sands Association wrote to the board inviting it to nominate the area the board required to be set a de as a playing area, it being und?r-'tood that the board would be prepared to keep the nominated area in -.rood order. Mr T. W. Roberts stated that Tahunanui’s population had grown faster in proportion than any other place in New Zealand. It would not be long before the population would be large enough to demand a proper recreational ground. It was a district matter and though there would be some expense he would be in favour of having a ground and keeping it in order so that the board would have a recreational area worthy of thc township. To him it seemed an excellent gesture on the association’s part. The chairman (Mr C. II Chamberlain) said the land proposed for the recreational area was that fronting Beach road between the bus waiting shed and the roadway leading to the bathing sheds. Mr T, E. Hudson: “It is a very large area.” THE FRONT DOOR The chairman said that the area was Tahunanui’s front door. He considered that such an area should bo controlled by the local body. He thought ihc board would be agreeable to taking it over and suggested an inspection, after which the board could decide what area it could maintain. The idea was to make provision for suitable playing areas after the war.
Il was decided to carry out an in spection next Saturday afternoon.
