MINE AGAIN IDLE

SOUTHLAND STOP-WORK MEETING - Invercargill. Feb. 7. The Linton mine at Ohoi was idle ; again to-day as a result of a stop-work meeting which was held early this > morning and which lasted till nearly midday. No intimation was given to the ; management as to the cause of the i meeting. . nor were any demands put lor ward to the company. It is understood- by the company that two miners who work together and ! sliarc ono pay docket, had a dispute between themselves os to the division | of the previous fortnight’s pay. A mati * Ci ' such as this is stated to be no conj corn of the company, as the total pay due to the two men for the fortnight was paid to them in one sum each pay day. It is- understood that work will be resumed to-morrow. Including 10-day. there have been 21 possible working days since the miners resumed work on 10th January after the holiday period. In this period, there have been live stop-work meetings. 1 nvee of which rgesulted in idle days. j The Birchwood mine, in which there was a gas explosion on 23rd January, is still idle. The Mossbank mine, in which heating was reported, was also idle for a few days. As a result of lost

time through the Birchwood and Mossbank mines being out of action, and stop-work meetings at Linton, the production 0 f approximately 400 tons of coal has been lost this year.—P.A.
