SENIOR COMPETITION
SATURDAY’S GAMES MACE AND HOAR SCORE CENTURIES The Nelson City Cricket Association’s senior competition was continued on Saturday afternoon when Air Force A had an easy win over Army by an innings and 131 runs. Athletic-Old Boys beat Air Force B by 26 runs on the first innings. For Air Force A Mace and Hoar each scored centuries before retiring. Mace hit twelve fours in his 103. Hoar scored his runs very quickly, his 102 including sixteen fours and four sixers. For Air Force A Waddington’s bowling performance in taking eight Army wickets for 21 runs, off five overs, was outstanding. In Army’s second innings Hope-Ede took six wickets for 28 runs. AIR FORCE A BEAT ARMY Air Force A batted first against Army, compiling 266 runs for three wickets—Mace 103 retired, N. Hoar 102 retired. Army replied with only 39, Vass (19) and Wadsworth (12) being the only double figure scorers. Waddington took a wicket with his first ball and another with his seventh, giving him two for 7 in his first over. He took another in his third over, two in the fourth, two in the fifth and one with the first ball of his sixth over. In the fifth he took two with consecutive balls. He had an average of 2.6 per wicket. Army followed on to make 96, T. Vass scoring half the total with 48. Hope-Ede took the bowling honours with six for 28.
