GOLDEN BAY CEMENT WORKERS

ANNUAL PICNIC AND DANCE

Pohara Beach formed a delightful setting for the Golden Bay cement workers’ annual picnic. The day was beautifully fine and there was a good attendance. The organisers and the secretary of the union (Mr J. Crosdale) had spared no effort to make the day an enjoyable one and the picnic was an undoubted success. A good programme of sports for children and adufts was carried out, with prizes donated by the union. Ice cream, sweets and soft drinks were provided for the children, while the adults were refreshed by afternoon tea. A stall bearing the title “The Pig and Whistle” did good business and a special competition for a five pound box of chocolates was won by Miss McGee, of Wellington. The annual dance of the cement workers* union held in the Pohara hall, attracted a large crowd and was a great success. Mrs V. Page and Mr G. Page supplied the mus'c, and Miss Nancy Hill and Mr J. Crosdale played extras. During the evening opportunity was taken to farewell Miss B/ Crosdale, who was leaving the district. Mrs s! Taylor, on behalf of the residents and the tennis club, presented her with a gift. Mr A. R. Bruce, vice-president of the Golden Bay Cement Workers’ Union, also made a presentation to her m recognition of her willing assistance to the union at all times.
