SPAIN’S NEUTRALITY

RATIFIED BY CABINET Madrid, I£eb. 3. General Franco presided at a Cabinet meeting to-day which ratified Spain’s strict neutrality and studied measures to make it respected. Cabinet issued the following communique: “The Government has ratified Spain’s position of strict neutrality to which it has adhered loyally. Tha Government is prepared to demand with the utmost rigour the fulfilment of duties appertaining to such strict neutrality both from nationals and foreign subjects. The Government likewise is prepared to submit to no pressure under any circumstances against its right to maintain neutrality and every country is obliged to respect this attitude as an act of indisputable sovereignty. “The goodwill Spain has shown in seeking to prevent this great world conflict from spreading constitutes the guarantee that she will face with the maximum serenity and patriotism any obstacles in her way, and, in so doing, she trusts that her Government fully shares the country’s unanimous wish, namely, to see our sovereignty and dignity respected.”
