DOGS IN ARCTIC RESCUES

Washington, Dec. 17. | Lieutenant David Erwin, of the ; United States Army, has reported on the success with which dogs called j huskies are helping rescue fliers ; grounded in snow-covered parts of j Alaska. Nine huskies and a sled are j loaded on a small bomber and flown to a landing place as near as possible to the grounded men. Sometimes the j nearest landing place is 50 miles from j the stranded fliers. The dogs, driven ! by expert handlers, travel from plane . to fliers, bringing first-aid and food and carrying back the injured on their sled.
