CLOCK TOWERS TO GO WELLINGTON, This Day.—Following a recent survey clock towers are to be removed from a large number ol post offices throughout the Dominion. In a statement setting out the position the Director-General of -the P. G T. Department states that clocks and bells are being handed back to citizens concerned. The statement! notes that in recent earthquakes' towers have aggravated damage to buildings. The following towers are listed lor removal; Ashburton, .Blenheim, Bluff Gore, Greymouth.; Hawera, Invercargill, Kaiapoi, New Plymouth, Nelson, Ponsonby, Remuera. Oamaru, Stratford, Taihape and Wal-! mate. The clocks in nearly all cases were provided by local bodies out of public subscription, subsidised by the Government.
