CENTRE CARNIVAL REPRESENTATIVES SEEN IN ACTION BRILLIANT DIVING DISPLAY Nelson junior and intermediate representative swimmers who will take part in the Dominion championships at Auckland were seen in action in" a Nelson Centre carnival at the Municipal Baths last night. The highlight of the evening was the diving display, when those who will compete at Auckland demonstrated the dives that they will do in the championships. Miss J. Carpenter, Miss M. Nesbit. Miss J. Harris, and B. Coleman delighted the crowd which packed the seating space, with a polished exhibition of plain and fancy dives, including compulsory and optional choices. such as backward headers, backward with pike, halfscrew backward, 1A somersaults. Lysander, and, by Miss Carpenter, a Molberg straight. This is believed to be the first time this dive has been attempted by a woman in New Zealand. The presence of a team of Air Force swimmers added interest to the events, and one, Plowman, together with Misses Carpenter and Nesbit, gave a brilliant display of concerted diving off three boards, difficult dives being carried out simultaneously. A burlesque of their efforts by the Krazy Kaper Troupe, in comic dress, was both humorous and clever. The “troupe” comprised L. Barry, D. Smith, and D. Pitcher. At the start of the sports the Nelson representative team paraded with a banner which has been donated and will be taken to Auckland. Their march past earned warm applause.
