FAILURE TO ACCOUNT FOR MONEY

CIVIL SERVANT BEFORE COURT Christchurch, This Day. Cecil Selwyn Sapsford, civil servant, aged 52, appeared before Mr S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court this morning on charges of failing to account for sums of money. The charges were: On 10th March, of stealing £2 10s, the property of the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council; between 15th July and 25th November, of having received from Mr R. T. Alston, sums totalling £l9 10s and requiring him to account for it to Ihe N.Z. Supply Council he failed to do so; between 29th April and 15th October, of having received from Messrs A. and F. Reay Lt'd., R. L. Fairweather, Pyne, Gould and Guinness Ltd., P. G. Clements Ltd.. B. L. Hart Ltd., Marcel Scheinwald, Durex Products Ltd. and Daniel Clinton, sums totalling £337 18s sd, on terms requiring him to account for or pay it to the Ministry of Supply he omitted to do so. Pleas of guilty were entered to the first two charges.—P.A.
