SPREAD OF DISPUTE
TWO MORE STATE MINES IDLE Greymouth, Jan. 10. The Wallscnd State mine, which had not resumed work since the holidays began in December, is still idle to-day. with no indication of a settlement of the dispute. Indeed, the strike has spread further, involving the Liverpool and Strongman mines, with the result that about 1400 tons of coal were lost to-day alone. Stoppage at the two latest mines is indicated to be in sympathy with the men at Wallsend and there is ground for belief that it will continue.
With the decreased output, railage schedules of Grey district opal for Westport for shipping to the North Island have been greatly upset and projected consignments will certainly be unfulfilled.
The only State mines working to-day were the Dobson and Blackball.
