The Stamp Club
CONDUCTED BY THE STAMP MAN Dear Boys and Girls, Last week I told you about five of the new Free Poland stamps, and to-day I will describe the other three belonging to the set of eight. The 80 groszy stamp is of historical interest as it shows the late General Sikorsky talking to Polish soldiers on his last visit to the Polish forces in the Middle East in June, 1943. It is one of the last pictures to be taken of him. just before he met his death when his plane crashed at Gibraltar. The 1 zloty stamp shows Polish patriots destroying a railway track running through a forest in an outlying district of Poland. Two men are loosening the rails while a third one with very tense features holds a revolver in his hand, watching in case German guards or patrols should appear. The last stamp shows the printing of a Polish underground paper in a loft, the name of the paper being “Rzeczposlita Polska” which means “Polish Republic.” A revolver can be seen lying on a stack of papers, which reminds us that the printers and editors are in danger all the time. I am looking-forward to being able to add this set of stamps to my collection. and I am sure you will like them tob, when you see them, as they are certainly of interest, not only to us stamp collectors, but to everyone, because they show such unique historical scenes. —Your friend. THE STAMP MAN.
