REFRIGERATOR EXPLODES

Sydney, Dec. 24. A refrigerator under a wooden staircase at the shop and dwelling of Mr Henry J. Haylan in Kippax Street, Sydney, exploded in the early hours of the morning. When Mr Haylan and his family went to the landing on the first floor they were met with acrid fumes and smoke from the staircase, which was blazing. Miss Lena Haylan climbed through a window on to an awning, and was rescued by firemen, who subdued the flames before serious damage was done.
