KIEL RAIDED AGAIN
U.S. PLANES MEET STRONG RESISTANCE London, Jan. 6. A strong force of American Fortresses and Liberators, with fighter escort, attacked Kiel for the second day in succession and found smoke still swirling up from the shipyards from the previous day’s bombing. Another force of American bombers with Thunderbolt escort attacked the aerodrome at Tours, where one bomb was seen to pierce the main hangar and an oil dump was set on fire. A third American force attacked the airfield near Bordeaux. In the course of these three attacks the Americans shot down 95 enemy aircraft for the loss of 25 heavy bombers and 12 fighters of their own. Pilots of the unescorted force which went to Bordeaux say that resistance was particularly strong there, and the force which went to Kiel was met by swarms of rocket-firing Messerschmitts. At Kiel the Germans protected the target with smoke screens. The German news agency says Dusseldorf and Edberfeld were among the places attacked in western Germany yesterday.
