WAKEFIELD WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Wakefield Women’s Institute was held in the theatre social hall. Mrs Kerr, the president, who was in the chair, extended a welcome to all present, including a new member. The ode and aspiration were repeated. The motto was, “A job cannot be done until it’s started,” and the rollcall “Three hints for spring cleaning” which presented some good and amusirtg hints. The competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom, Mrs Douglas 1, Mrs Hunt 2; lettuce, Mrs Edwards 1, Mrs Lawrence 2; radish, Mrs Chaytor 1 and 2, After a refreshing cup of tea interest centred around a spinning wheel, Mrs Ladiey and Miss Winn gave a demonstration and description of the art of spinning. Garments knitted up from this wool were passed around, and a shawl knitted in 2-ply wool came in for special attentio.n. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies who had demonstrated the value of home industry, especilily jn these times of wool shortage, The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
