The Minister of Works, the Hon. R. Semple, who has been visiting Nelson in connection with Ihe Cobb hydroelectric works left for Christchurch this morning.
A presentation on behalf of the staff ol ‘Tiic Mail” was made this morning to two fellow members who are on leave from camp—Cpl. E. Pearce and A/Cl R. H. Hunter, and good wishes expressed for their future welfare.

Mr and Mrs G. W. Mac Shane. now of Wellington, have at last received word that their son T/S/Sgt. C. G. Mac Shane is a prisoner of war in Germany. L/Cpl. Harry Mac Shane, late of Nelson is serving in the Pacific.
Lieutenant-Colonel R. Trevor Smith, 0.8. E.. A.M.1.C.E., who was till recently commanding officer of the New Zealand Railway Construction Group in the Middle East, has returned to New Zealand and has assumed the position of inspecting engineer for the PublicWorks Department in the South Island, with headquarters in Christchurch.
