SPANISH MONARCHY
RESTORATION URGED BY ARMY OFFICERS London, Oct. 15. Many of General Franco’s most powerful army officers have petitioned him for restoration of the monarchy, says the “Daily Exprcs.” The petitioners included General Saliquet, Military Governor of Madrid, General Orgaz, High Commissioner for Spanish Morocco, General Moscardo, Military Governor of Catalonia, and General Kinderlan, Governor-General of Majorca. Three months ago General Franco dismissed 23 members of the Cortes for presenting a similar petition, but the “Daily Express” adds that this time the generals seemingly mean business. The Pretender to the Spanish Throne is Don Juan, the late King Alfonso’s youngest son at present living in Switzerland.
