HUNDRED YEARS AGO TO-DAY
A NELSON CHRONOLOGY 3rd July, 1843: Some inhabitants of Nelson have approached Mr Tuckett asking that some place should be fortified to give the public a place of security in case of attack. While not fearing such an attack but to quiet the public mind, Mr Tuckett consented that a number of men should be employed to dig a trench and throw up an embankment on what is now the Church Hill. —“Nelson Examiner.’*
