£52,628 WANTED

NELSON'S WAR LOAN TARGET MUTUAL AND SELF-HELP OVER FINAL STRETCH A bold bid is being made to win for Nelson the distinction of being the first district to reach its quota in New Zealand's biggest war loan. Last night there was still £52,628 to be subscribed before the bull’s-eye of the £550,000 target is hit. Tadmor, Nelson city and Collingwood have all over-subscribed their quotas. Over the final fifty-odd thousand the Nelson district campaign is going to be turned into a community affair with one district of our area helping the other, but with every incentive being left to particular districts to reach their allotted target. The district barometer will be published next week. The loan closes next Saturday. Last night the Dominion total stood at £25,266,460. R.N.Z.A.F “CONTRIBUTION Wellington, This Day. Setting itself the objective of raising at least £IOO,OOO during the past Air Force Week in the Third Liberty Loan, personnel of the R.N.Z.A.F. and Air Department, had at 9 a.m. to-day exceeded this total by more than £20,000, the grand total then being £121,286. Further results from various stations are yet to come. INVEST WITHOUT DELAY THE MAYOR’S ADVICE AND BELIEF [To the Editor] Sir, —Nelsonians everywhere will be pleased and proud of the announcement that the district is leading the Dominion in the subscribed percentage of its quota of the Third Liberty Loan. There must be many more yet who contemplate lending before the closing date. We have some distance to go, especially in some areas, but if everyone would make a point of completing his or her investment on Monday, I believe there would be a strong possibility of announcing on Monday night that Nelson was the first district to reach its quota. What better news could our Nelson men in the forces hear than that their home district is behind them to such an extent that it led the Dominion in subscribing for this huge loan? It can be done with everyone’s assistance and it will be just as easy to invest by Monday night as by the end of the week.—l am etc.,
