NO NEISON VISIT
GENERAL FREYBERG PRESSED FOR TIME PRIME MINISTER’S PROMISE Genera! Sir Bernard Freyberg will not pay a visit to Nelson during his present tour. A message to this effect was received by Mr H. Atmore, M.P.. last evening from the Prime Minister ‘Mr Fraser). Mr Fraser said he bad submitted a suggestion, as he had promised to do, but the General had felt that his time was too short to allow any more engagements to be “squeezed into a very full itinerary.” The Prime Minister greatly regretted that it had been found* impracticable to give the people of Nelson an opportunity of paying tribute to General Freyberg and through him to the Division, but added that he would give this undertaking: should the General make a similar subsequent tour of the Dominion, Nelson would be the first place on his itinerary, outside of Wellington, the capital city. In connection with future tours Mr Fraser did not explicitly mention to Mr Atmore the other areas in the northern part of the Island. The request made by the Nelson-Marlborough-West Coast League of Local Bodies was for the inclusion in the itinerary of at least one town in the League’s territory. MR MILNER’S TELEGRAM The chairman of the Nelson War Loan Committee (Mr C. Milner) yesterday telegraphed the chairman of the National Loan Committee in Wellington asking that every effort be made to arrange a visit of General Freyjperg to Nelson. Such a visit, he said, would be of great assistance to the loan effort.
