WEDDING
GRI'BB—PICKWELL The wedding took place at St. John's Methodist Church, NeLson, of Gwendoline Dorothy, only daughter of Mr and Mrs C. H. Pickwell, Nelson, and A/C.l John Benjamin Grubb, only son of Mr and Mrs B. Grubb, Tauranga. The officiating minister was the Rev. C. Blair, and Miss G. Carty presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a beautiful frock of cream embossed satin, the only ornament worn being a turquoise and pearl pendant, the gilt of the bridegroom. The veil, which had been lent by a friend, was surmounted by orange blossom and a coronet of natural flowers. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses and chrysanthemums. The bride was attended by three of her friends as brides maids and they looked charming in dainty organdie frocks. Miss Ism ay Fenn w’as in blue. Miss Marjory Graham in pink, and Miss Ulva Nelson, from Invercargill, was in green. The frocks were macle with square necklines, full sleeves and bouffant skirts. Matching shoulder-length veils and bouquets to tone completed pretty toilettes. Sgt. Eric Smith, of Gisborne, acted as best man, and Mr Ron Olliver and Mr John Coveil, both of Tauranga, as groomsmen. After the ceremony the wedding party paid a brief visit to the patients and staff of Te Rangi private hospital, w'here the bride had been a member of the nursing staff. The reception was held at the Civic tea-rooms, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother, who wore a wine coloured three-piece ensemble with hat and accessories to tone, and carried a bouquet of roses and cyclamen. She was assisted by her daughter in-law, Mrs Rainsiord Pickwell of New’ Plymouth, who .wore a maize coloured woollen frock and hat of the same col our and a fur coat. Her shoulder spray was of autumn tinted flow’ers. The bridegroom's mother wore a brown costume with matching accessories and carried a bouquet of chrysanthemums and autumn tinted flowers. A feature of the wedding breakfast was the artistic three-tiered wedding cake surmounted by a miniature silvered medium bomber, the latter having been made by the bridegroom. The bride and bridegroom left for Picton and the Sounds, the bride travelling in a smart dusky pink frock with petrel blue accessories. Prior to the wedding, the bride, who is a Karitane nurse, was entertained by the staff of Te Rangi Hospital ana at a gift evening by Miss E. Carpenter. The bridesmaids' also combined in a party for the bride at the home of Miss Graham. Mr and Mrs Grubb hope to make their future home in Tauranga after the war.
