OBITUARY
MRS JOHN GRIGU
Mrs Alice Montgomerie Grigg, widow of Mr John Charles Nattle Grigg, formerly of Longbeach Estate, died at her home in Park lane, Fendalton, on Saturday. She had been in failing health for the last few years.
Mrs Grigg was a daughter of Captain F. W. Hutton, F.R.S., an Englishman who came to New Zealand in 1866, and who in 1880 was appointed professor of biology at Canterbury University College, a post from which he retired to become curator of the Canterbury Museum. After her marriage in 1891. Mrs Grigg lived for many years at Longbeach, but some time after the death of her husband she made her home in Christchurch. Both at Longbeach and in Christchurch she was admired andjloved for her charm of manner, her /unfailing kindness, her gift of understanding, and her ready sympathy. She had a family of three sons and two daughters. One daughter, Mrs J. K. Hardy, lives in Fendalton, and Mr: J. H. Grigg, Longbeach. and Mr Gilbert Grigg, Hororata, are sons. Another son, Major A. N. Grigg, was killed on active service in the Middle East. Mrs Maitland Rich and Mrs Lancelot Lane arj sisters.
