APPRECIATION OF DR. GILLIES
LIFE MEMBER OF CRIPPLED CHILDREN SOCIETY Dr A. Gillies, orthopaedic specialist, Wellington, was elected first honorary life member of the Nelson branch of the Crippled Children Society last night. In proposing this the president, Mr W. A. Armstrong, observed that if the people of Nelson realised the tremendous amount of work Dr GiUJgs had done for cripples in Nelson they would be very surprised. Dr Gillies took a great interest in these children, and not only because it was his work. He was not always considering what he would get out of a case; his chief desire was to see that the child received the treatment it needed to restore it to health, and also the necessary after-care. Mr Armstrong added that Dr Gillies instilled a great feeling of confidence in the parents and children concerned. Major R. Dagger, seconding the motion, remarked that if the public knew what Dr Gillies did they would see that he was indeed a benefactor.
