NEW REPATRIATION BENEFITS

MEANS TEST REMOVED ANNOUNCEMENT AT CANBERRA (Rec. 10.5 a.m.) Canberra, This Day. New repatriation benefits were announced in the House of Representatives yesterday by the Minister of Repatriation, Mr Frost. They include removal of the means test applying to war widow’s pensions, and free medical hospital treatment in respect of all disabilities occasioned by war. If a soldier marries within 15 years of his discharge his wife and children will be entitled to receive a pension in respect to any war incapacity or death from war service. Mr Frost said the minimum pension payable to a war widow would be £2 10s weekly. Abolition of the means test meant that property and income exceeding £1 a week would not affect this pension.—P.A.
