“POLITICAL KINDERGARTEN”
OPPOSITION “BABY TALK” CRITICISED MR SEMPLE AIRS VIEWS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, This Day. Opponents of Labour were now saying that the Government had done too much, but if men had been left in industry and not been mobilised and trained and the country had been invaded the Opposition would have accused the Government of committing high treason, said the Minister of Public Works, Mr R. Semple, in the House of Representatives last night, during the Address-in-Reply debate. Labour's opponents were saying that the Government had done too much now that the Pacific position had eased, he declared, but he wished to emphasise that New Zealand was not yet out of danger. Referring to the general debate, the Minister said he had never listened in the House, to such carping or superficial criticism. It was like a political kindergarten. Not a single constructive suggestion had come from Opposition members, but just baby talk.
