CAPSIZE OF CAR
ONE KILLED AND FOUR INJURED Auckland, Jan. 31. One man was killed and four were admitted to hospital as the result of a car capsizing three miles south of Whangarei on the Whangarei-Auckland highway to-night. The victims were:— Killed: John Albert Harris, aged 41, married, with four children, quarryman at Wilson’s (N.Z.) Portland Cement works. Injured: Peter Cook, aged 62, farmer; Harold Gordon, aged 49, fitter; Lesley Harris, aged 29, railway employee; David Harry Burton, aged 68, cement works employee. The condition of all the injured is reported satisfactory. The accident occurred when a sedan car, driven by Mr Gordon, skidded in loose metal after rounding a bend. The car dived over a bank-five feet high and through a wire fence into a paddock where it came to rest on its side.—P.A.
