MARLBOROUGH'S HOT DAY GRASS FIRE THREATENS TOWNSHIP Blenheim, This Day. Blenheim sweltered on Saturday in a record temperature ol 99 degrees in the shade. At some places in the district the mercury topped the century. During the afternoon a grass fire broke out near Renwick. Swiftly advancing on th e township it threatened a hotel and several houses. In the absence of a water service and Are fighting equipment the township was in danger of destruction, but a Are unit from an air force station supported the efforts of the beaters and saved the situation after the flames had reached a motor shed and vegetable garden in the rear of the Renwick Arms Hotel.—P.A.
