RAPID RETREAT OF GERMANS
GRADUAL CLOSING OF PINCERS <Rec. 12.30 p.m.) London, Dec. 21. The gradual closing of the pincers formed by Lieut.-Marshal Golikov’s thrust south-eastwards of Voronej and General Vatoutin's push westwards is causing the Germans to-day to retreat rapidly south-westwards, apparently preparing to fall back to the base at Voroshilovgrad
Reuter’s Moscow correspondent says as the jaws close on Millerovo the Germans are leaving huge quantities of tanks and guns in their hasty withdrawal. After nipping the VoronejRostov railw-ay at Kantyrovka above Millerovo the Russians have fanned out. Golikov’s and Vatoutin’s forces, smashing forward north and south of Boguchar, are now in close contact.
