1.4 INCHES OF RAIN IN NFLSON GARDENS WILL BENEFIT The spell or dry weather which had j lasted since the 24th September was broken when rain commenced yesterday midday in a thick drizzle and continued during the afternoon and last night. Eailv this morning some very heavy showers fell and by 9.30 a.m. 1.4 inches of rain had been recorded. This morning the Maitai river was very discoloured and in flood, the water flowing almost as high as the lower footpath beside the river. The rain came at an opportune time for farmers and gardeners whose crops would have suffered had the unseasonable dry spell been much further prolonged.
