EIGHT VILLAGERS KILLED

BRITISH PLANE CRASHES COTTAGE UNROOFED (Rec. 11.15 a.m.) London, Oct. 6. Eight persons were killed, two are missing and a number were injured when a British plane crashed' last night into the middle of Somersham village, Huntingdonshire, wrecking six cottages and damaging others. When the plane got into difficulties the crew baled out and landed safely. The crash caused a tremendous fire, visible for miles. Firemen, Home Guardsmen, soldiers and airmen joined in the work of rescuing and recovering bodies from the debris. The plane cut off th e roof of one house but th e occupants downstairs escaped. It then went straight through another house and crashed into a cottage on th e opposite side of the street.—P.A.
