CHARGE OF RECEIVING

MANUFACTURER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL Wellington. This Day. In the Magistrate’s Court. Wellington. yesterday. Sydney Klinberg, soft goods manufacturer, pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial on a carge of receiving stolen property. It was alleged that Klinberg received from Raymond John Watts, a former buyer for Woolworths (N.Z.). Ltd., and now charged with theft and failure to account, 9300

yards of stolen material valued at £1179 5s lOd. knowing it to have been dishonestly obtained. Watts gave evidence for the Crow Ti.

The Crown Prosecutor, Mr W. H. Cunningham, conducted the case for the Crown, and Mr W. J. Stacey appeared for Klinberg. Mr Stout, S.M., was on the Bench.

Evidence was given of the delivery of goods to Tiny Tots Co., and of the re-purchaseof some of the material from W. R. Nairn- It was then sent to the Estelle Manufacturing Co., of which the manager was Harry Klinberg, believed to be accused’s brother. Details of transactions with Tiny Tots, W. R. Nairn, and Woolworths were given by Robert Leeds Tasker, an Army sergeant, and previously Wellington representative of H. W. Airey, Ltd.. Auckland- Watts, he said, had told him that Klinberg had the goods for sale, and he arranged a re-sale to Woolworths by submitting samples to Watts. He believed they were Klinberg’s goods, and had paid him £506- Tasker said he was later told by Watts to deliver them to the Estelle Co. William Robert Nairn, licensed wholesaler, gave evidence of transactions he financed for Tasker. Evidence of an arrangement with Klinberg by which the two of them were to share the proceeds of the sale of goods was given by Raymond John Watts, Air Force sergeant, previously employed by Woolworths as a buyer. He said he had received about £2OO or £250 from Klinberg in cash. Bail was allowed-
