HOME GUARD IN SOUTHLAND
TWO GROUP DIRECTORS RESIGN Invercargill, Oct. 5. Two group directors of the Home Guard in Southland have tendered their resignations. They are Lieuten-ant-Colonel W. Bell, Invercargill, and Lieutenant-Colonel E. F. Selby, Gore. When interviewed to-day, Lieuten-ant-Colonel Bell stated that in view of information he had received about the future control of the Home Guard, he had been compelled to ask that he be relieved of his position as group director. When asked if he had any further comment, he said that he had nothing further to say at present, as he had yet to see the officers in his group.
“I have already made arrangements to meet the battalion commanders, as I consider that those who have stood by me for the past two years are entitled to an explanation as to why I have resigned,” he added.
Lieutenant-Colonel Selby said he had no statement to make.—P.A.
