DEATH OF ALICE DUER MILLER
AUTHOR OF “THE WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER” New York, Aug 23 The death occurred yesterday of Mrs Alice Duer Miller, who wrote “The White Cliff's of Dover.” a poem which has for its theme the admiration of an American woman for Britain. When published last year, “The White Cliffs of Dover” at once achieved a wide popularity, and it has been broadcast many times. The poem tells the story of the marriage of a young American woman to an Englishman, of her dawning understandings of the English character, her final realisation of Eng. lish ideals and outlook, and of the death of her husband in the last war. Mrs Miller, who was 68, was the author of ‘‘Reluctant Duchess,” “Gowns for Roberta ” "And One Was Beautiful,” and other novels and plays.
