LABOUR DAY

HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT INDUSTRY STATEMENT BY MINISTER Wellington, This Day The War Cabinet has approved a recommendation from the Supply Council that Labour Day this year be observed as a holiday throughout industry, according to an announcement made by Mr Sullivan. Minister of Industries and Mr Webb, Minister of Labour, to-day. The Ministers stated that after examining the matter from several angles, the War Cabinet had decided that the long weekend provided by Labour DaJ tilling as it did on a Monday, would have a beneficial effect upon war production rather than detracting from it. Where workers are called upon to work on Labour Day they should, of course, be paid appropriate holiday rates the Ministers added.—P.A.
