ANNESBROOK ORCHARD
SEASON’S OPERATIONS ANALYSED Results from the Cawthron Institute’s Annesbrook orchard for the 1940-41 sea. son are set out in the Institute's annual report. A record crop was obtained, 5,351 cases of apples and pears being marketed from 9J acres of bearing orchard. The fruit was clean, easy to handle and practically all marketable. The fruit was purchased by the Internal Marketing Department, 5s 8.5 d per case being received for 4115 cases of apples, and 5s 10£d for 1236 cases of pears. Owing to the high yield, and the cleanness of the crop, the cost of production was 5s 5.2 d per case as against 5s 9.4 din the previous season.
