Mr and Mrs G. G. Hay ter, Takaka, have received news that their youngest son, S. C. F. Hayter, D.F.C., R.A.F,, has been promoted to Squadron-Leader and posted to the Middle East, On his way he spent two weeks in a rest camp where everyone was most kind and hospitable. Driver William G. Taylor, of Wakefiekl, who was reported “now not missing” in the casualty list published on Monday, had been reported missing in June. Driver Taylor was taken prisoner in Crete in May, 1941, but he escaped after 27 days. He is a son of Mr J. H. Taylor, of Wakefield. Mrs Officer, of Stoke, has received word from a prison camp in Germany that her brother, Corpl. S. Osborne, previously reported died of wounds in Kokinia. is safe and well. Mr C. Costello of Nelson, to-day received letters from his two sons, Sergt. E. Costello and Private C. Costello, who are prisoners of war in Italy. Both report that they are fit and well. Sergeant Phillip Andrew McConchie, D.C.M., has informed his parents, Mr and Mrs H. McConchie, Nelson, that he is safe and well.
