FANCY DRESS PARTY

IN AID OF SOLDIERS’ PARCELS A large number of children attended the fancy dress party, held in the Motueka Institute Hall in aid of funds for soldiers’ parcels. Mrs Temple and Mr C. Berry supplied the music for the games and dancing and Master Bobbie Dixon led the community singing, which the young folk thoroughly enjoyed. Items were contributed by Noeline Hickmott. skipping dance, and Bobbie Dixon, vocal solos. The fancy costumes were judged by Mesdames O. C. Wilkinson and F. G. Painter, who awarded the prizes as follows: —Best dressed girl. Pam O’Neill, ■‘Victory”; best costume, boy, Tom Hick, mott, “Pirate’: most original, June Eginton. “Weet Bix,” and Graeme Atkins. “Dragon”: best pair. Robert Atkins and Ethel Quavle, “Bride and Bridegroom"; Tiny tots. John Woodward “Father Christmas”; Ross Stringer, "Soldier”; decorated bicycle. Bobbie Thorn 1. Noeline Hickmott 2; decorated pram. Ethel Quayle 1, Eileen Hickmott 2, Jocelyn Rankin 3. The judges commented on the large number of beautiful costumes. Alter the dispensing of afternoon tea. Mrs L. Inwood, on behalf of the Patriotic Dance Committee, thanked Mesdames Wilkinson and Painter for acting as judges, the parents for their work in making the children’s costumes and all present for their support; and in concluding intimated that the Hard-Up ball on Friday would be the wind-up of the weekly dances, organised by the Patriotic Dance Committee.
