The Prime Minister, Mr Curtin, said that by fit tingly celebrating the day Australian*were showing their resolve* to win this war completely and build a pea* • which would give security to all and establish international relations—economic, political and legal—on a sure foundation. A message from General MacArthur. read in all churches, said .- “Two thou and years ago a Man who dared to stand for truth and freedom of tlnhuman spirit was crucified and died Yet this death was not the end but only the beginning to be followed by the resurrection and the life. For 20 centuries the story of the Mon of Galilee has served for all Christians as a symbol. So to-day, when our i churches stress the spiritual sigmfi i ranee of our united efforts to re-estah | lish the supremacy of our Christian i principles, we can humbly and without. I presumption declare our faith and con fidence. with God’s help, in our own J final victory.” MACARTHUR DAY f* iag Day followed Saturday's observance ot MacArthur Day, the forty-third anniversary of the day when General MacArthur entered West Point Military Academy. In a special message to America on this day General MacArthur said: “Ti.* fortuitous circumstance that the day T entered the service of my beloved country should have been fhc one selected as the focus of this great patriotic c»uf pouring of free men on the march, fil' r me with humble thanksgiving. I that each participant say a simple and silent prayer that the merciful God may guide our steps.” Mr Curtin and the Am Mini U Mr Fordo, both paid tribute to G< ;. oral MacArthur. “Were these times 1 of peace, the United States could have 1 no more popular ambassador here than this soldier,” commented Mr Curtin.- ’ P A.
