There were a number of localities j;• m the Kumara district that looked very promising after a geophysical survey., said the Minister of Mines (Mr Webb) tins morning, commenting on prepara- i lions being made by the Superior Oil ! Company of New Zealand for drilling m that area. Referring to the arri- ; val of the company’s experts in the Dominion the Minister said that the New Zealand Minister in Washington . (Mr Nash) had rendered great assistance in making arrangements with the ' American Government for priority in the shipment of the men and their gear. The Superior Oil Comany had had a team of about forty experts en- ' gaged in survey work with some of the most modern plant in the world, ) and after three years of prospecting at very great expense the records of } the work were sent to America for further checking. As a result the company decided to send out three drilling rigs of the most modern type; in fact, jj the drill that was about to operate on • the West Coast was considered to be “ the largest ever reported. Drilling would be carried out with the other two rigs in the Manawatu district. —P.A.
