I ENEMY IN LASHIO SUBURBS CHINESE REINFORCEMENTS (Rec. noon) Chungking, April 29 , A Chinese communique announced : “Japanese advance units have reached the Lashio suburbs. Japanese forces are advancing rapidly northward around the Chinese eastern flank, trying to capture Hsipaw, thereby cutting the railway between I Lashio and Mandalay. Yesterday the Japanese reached Nanmang.' W 1 ile details are lacking it is obvious that the Japanese occupation of Hsipaw will have serious consequences. On the other hand the gravity of the Burma situation by no means weakens] the Chinese determination to continue resistance in Burma.
