NELSON ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING OF DELEGATES j SEASON TO START ON 9th MAY The Nelson Hockey Association held 1 its thirty-ninth annual meeting in the Institute Rooms last evening. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows : Patron, Mr H. R. Duncan; president, Mr W. J. Terrill; vice-president, Mr F. Cribble; life members, Messrs E. Davidson. R. J B. Smith, O. J. Mullins, W. Pope, W. J. Gallen, 11. J. Savage, M. R. Best and J. W. Russell; hon. members. Messrs H. Atmore, M.P., Dr. S. A. Gibbs, J. Newman, C. Spear, W. A. Dee. B. Trathen. O. Barton. E. R. Neale, J. G. Cressey, W. Grimmett. E. Chitten- j den (Motueka), 11. G. Brodie, P. C. Hurst, A. H. Crawley, W. W. Squires. A. E Dee, G. L. Page, N. L. Field, W. A Ryder (Riwaka), C. F. Skinner, M.P., Dr. J. U. Williams, Mrs C. Milner Mrs C Moller; hon. secretary. Mr R. .J. Simpson; hon. treasurer, Miss Owen; management committee. Messrs R. Frost, Patterson and N. Rice and Miss Wratt; hon auditor. Mr H. C. Fletcher; delegate to New Zealand Hockey Association, Mr R. Grade; senior men’s selector, Mr C. W. Lipscombe; junior men’s selector. Mr W. J. Terrill. The appointment of a women’s selector was left to the incoming committee. On his election as president, Mr Terrill thanked the members for appointing him to the office and said that he was pleased to be able to do something active for hockey in Nelson after having had enjoyment from the game for many years. Mr Terrill moved a vote of thanks to Mr C. W. Lipscombe, the retiring president, for his services to the Association as president for the past four years. The motion was carried with acclamation. Mr Lipscombe was elected a life member of the Association. The annual report was read and adopted, the secretary’ reporting inter | alia:—During the season lour men’s clubs and five ladies’ clubs affiliated to the Association. The number of teams competing in each grade of the Association’s competition was: Men’s senior, four for the championship and four lor the Charity Cup; men’s junior, three; ladies, five. In presenting the annual balance sheet, the president remarked that the : Association’s finances had decreased a | little during the year. Owing to the war there had been no representative matches played in Nelson last season, with consequent loss of revenue. Arrangements for the coming season j were discussed. It was decided to fix next Tuesday, sth May, as the closing date for nominations of teams for the competitions, so that they might be started the following Saturday, 9th May Some discussion took place as to whether championships should be held Ibis vear when there would be so few teams competing It was agreed that no decision could be made until the incoming committee had received all nominations. Most members were of the opinion that the championship shie’.a should be competel for as usual. Mr L. Best voiced the sentiments of the majority, saying, “Surely there is some credit due to a club that can keep a full team together at all during the present times.”
